Managing Director, Technology Officers Practice – Retained Search

Job Description:

  • Own end-to-end execution of retained executive search engagements under a Senior Partner’s supervision
  • Translate client needs into clear, practical, and differentiated search strategies
  • Lead research teams developing target company lists, market maps, candidate pipelines, and search hypotheses
  • Drive engagement momentum with pace, discipline, and accountability
  • Build trusted relationships with client hiring teams through communication, judgment, and counsel
  • Advise clients on role specifications, talent assessment, and key decision points
  • Identify and constructively challenge weaknesses or inefficiencies in clients’ hiring processes
  • Motivate and direct research teams during difficult searches
  • Synthesize market intelligence and candidate feedback into actionable insights
  • Ensure a high-quality candidate experience from outreach through completion
  • Partner with the Senior Partner and escalate client management challenges when appropriate
  • Maintain quality, professionalism, discretion, and follow-through throughout each engagement
  • Report to a Senior Partner while retaining primary ownership of search execution and day-to-day leadership

Requirements:

  • Significant experience in retained executive search or a closely related advisory environment
  • Proven ability to run complex executive search engagements with substantial client exposure and ownership
  • Strong search strategy skills, including role shaping, target identification, market mapping, and candidate assessment
  • High emotional intelligence and strong interpersonal judgment
  • Ability to challenge clients constructively without damaging trust or momentum
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and direct research teams through ambiguity and adversity
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to synthesize information clearly and influence senior stakeholders
  • Strong project management discipline and attention to detail
  • Sound judgment about when to handle issues directly and when to involve a Senior Partner
  • Consultative mindset with a strong bias toward accountability and outcomes
  • Credibility, calm under pressure, tact, commercial astuteness, accountability, resilience, collaboration, client orientation, motivating leadership, and strong listening skills
